Viral street art graffiti marketing on the streets of Paris, blue like blood on the neck of a haute blond femme fatale, high quality fragrance who’s end result smells like pure opium and warm radiant flesh, package design = spraycan shaped bottle like object, and the list continues… What doesn’t attract me to this? nothing yet (except I have yet to experience it in person…)

It started in New York and now it is showing up in Paris, Wode, the new art fragrance from Boudicca has arrived. The fragrance comes in a graffiti spray can, is cobalt blue. Boudicca Wode scent will come in a regular Eau de Toilette (€98 for 150 ml) or in the blue paint form described above (€83). It will launch in October; in the US, it will be at *Barneys, in the UK, at Browns and the Dover Street Market.

Initially the fragrance will turn your skin and/or clothing blue, then it will disappear. The animalistic spicy perfume is based on the smell of raw opium. The short video for the fragrance was screened at the Jeu de Paume the 26, 27 & 28th September as part of the ASVOFF curated program.

The Notes:
The fragrance opens with herbal spicy notes of juniper berry, cardamon, nutmeg absolute, clary sage, coriander seed and angelica root. A touch of fresh hesperidic and lighter floral notes add airiness.
Through rare elements like black hemlock extract and the smell of raw opium, you will enter an olfactive space where saffron, tuberose absolute, tonka bean, styrax resin, and treemoss slowly unfold round a musky leather heart.
Amber and animalic notes like synthetic castoreum and cistus labdanum deepen the lingering impression of warm and radiant flesh.
The Word:
The name Wode is taken from the word “Woad”, a deep blue plant extract, which was used in paste form by the ancient Britons as a tribal marking. Woad would have seemed magical to the Ancient Britons, as in its raw state it is a muddy hue and only when exposed to oxygen did it turn blue.
The Packaging:
Wode is packaged in a classic spray paint can. Graffiti is the modern war paint, the most public of all art forms, while steeped in rebellion and anti establishment values. Wrapped around the can is an engraved steel label tied with black braided ribbon tipped in metal; a detail synonymous with BOUDICCA team’s highly refined finishing details on their garments.
The Collaborators:
The nose : Geza Schoen of Escentric Molecules
The oils : International Flavors & Fragrances.(IFF)
Fragrance consultant : Susan Aurora Irvine
The Boudicca Wode Website went live on Friday 19th Sept 2008. Both ‘Wode Paint’ & ‘Wode Scent’ is currently stocked at Colette in Paris
Wode will be delivered to their stockists on the 8th Nov 08. Please see the stockists page at Boudiccawode.com for further details. You can register on the Wode site to receive updated news on availability and events.
Boudicca is also in the process of creating a collection of garments all with ‘hidden meanings’ which are revealed by spraying with Wode Paint, These garments (Boudicca White label) will be available through the Wode site.

* I went with Lumi, a dear lovely fashionista friend/muse, the one that first introduced me to Boudica, this weekend to the big shoppe in Beverly Hills to experience it in person to no avail :( & the sales people were not even aware of its existence. curses!

Here’s a fairly concise summary of last nights debate, via Katie Couric. Heads up by Janny.
October 1st is world vegetarian day (wow it’s October already!) and it’s a kickoff of Vegetarian Awareness Month.
note: i’m not a veggie
(at the moment, though was for most of my life and i still and will always lean much toward that direction in general)
but i definitely support the cause!
here’s some good info from treehuger.com about the holiday, and veggie awareness in general and its positive affect on that lil’ doomed planet called earth, w/ some links
TreeHugger keeps saying that one of the best things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint is to eat less meat; in the UK some are even proposing that it be rationed. Perhaps today is good day to go without; it is World Vegetarian Day.
The North American Vegetarian Society suggests some other good reasons not to eat meat:
Benefits of vegetarianism include:
• reducing the risk of major killers like heart disease, stroke and cancers while cutting exposure to food borne pathogens;
• offering a viable answer to feeding the world’s hungry, through more efficient use of grains and other crops;
• saving animals from suffering in factory farm conditions and from painful slaughter;
• conserving vital, but limited freshwater, fertile topsoil and other precious resources;
• preserving irreplaceable ecosystems, such as rainforests and other wildlife habitats;
• mitigating the ever-expanding environmental pollution of animal agriculture; and the list goes on. ::World Vegetarian DayMore TreeHugger on Vegetarianism:
